Description

HMG (Human Menopausal Gonadotropin, also known as Menotropin) is a purified preparation of gonadotropins containing both follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) activity. Originally extracted from the urine of postmenopausal women (who produce high levels of gonadotropins due to absent ovarian feedback), HMG provides balanced gonadotropin stimulation. The FSH component stimulates follicular development in females and spermatogenesis in males, while the LH component promotes steroidogenesis and final follicular maturation. HMG has been a foundational tool in reproductive research and assisted reproduction technology.
