Description
5-Amino-1MQ (5-amino-1-methylquinolinium) is a small molecule and selective inhibitor of nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT), an enzyme involved in cellular energy metabolism and epigenetic regulation. While not a peptide in the traditional sense, 5-Amino-1MQ is commonly studied alongside peptide-based metabolic compounds for its role in modulating NNMT activity. NNMT catalyzes the methylation of nicotinamide using S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) as a methyl donor, impacting NAD+ biosynthesis and the methionine cycle. By inhibiting NNMT, 5-Amino-1MQ has been shown in preclinical studies to increase intracellular NAD+ and SAM levels, which may influence energy expenditure, lipid metabolism, and cellular aging pathways. Research has also explored its effects on adipocyte differentiation and muscle stem cell function. Supplied as a lyophilized powder. For research use only.
