Description
Kisspeptin (also known as Metastin) is a neuropeptide encoded by the KISS1 gene that plays a central role in the regulation of reproductive hormone signaling through the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis. Kisspeptin neurons in the hypothalamus (primarily in the arcuate nucleus and anteroventral periventricular nucleus) release kisspeptin, which binds to the GPR54 (KISS1R) receptor on GnRH neurons, directly stimulating gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) secretion. This GnRH release triggers downstream LH and FSH secretion from the pituitary gland. Kisspeptin is essential for puberty onset, maintaining adult reproductive function, and mediating metabolic and environmental influences on reproduction. Research has demonstrated its role in fertility regulation, sex hormone dynamics, and as a potential diagnostic tool for reproductive disorders. Supplied as a lyophilized powder. For research use only.
