Host defense peptide studied for innate immunity and antimicrobial activity.

Categories: , Tags: ,

Description

LL-37 is the only human cathelicidin antimicrobial peptide, consisting of 37 amino acids beginning with two leucine residues (hence the name). It is produced as the C-terminal fragment of human cathelicidin antimicrobial protein (hCAP18) through proteolytic cleavage by proteinase 3. LL-37 is expressed by epithelial cells, neutrophils, macrophages, and other immune cells, playing a critical role in innate immune defense. Beyond direct antimicrobial activity against bacteria, viruses, and fungi through membrane disruption, LL-37 has been studied for its immunomodulatory effects including chemokine and cytokine modulation, promotion of wound healing, angiogenesis stimulation, and regulation of inflammatory responses. Research has also explored its anti-biofilm properties and its role in bridging innate and adaptive immunity. Supplied as a lyophilized powder. For research use only.
