Description
Oxytocin Acetate is the acetate salt form of oxytocin, a nine-amino acid cyclic neuropeptide produced by the hypothalamus and released from the posterior pituitary gland. Often referred to as the ‘bonding hormone,’ oxytocin plays fundamental roles in social behavior, pair bonding, maternal behavior, uterine contraction, and milk ejection. Research has expanded understanding of oxytocin’s effects far beyond reproduction, demonstrating roles in social cognition, trust, empathy, anxiety reduction, stress response modulation, and wound healing. Oxytocin acts through its specific receptor (OXTR), a G-protein coupled receptor expressed in the brain, uterus, mammary gland, cardiovascular system, and other tissues. The peptide has been studied in models of autism spectrum disorder, anxiety, depression, and social dysfunction. Supplied as a lyophilized powder. For research use only.
