Description
Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide derived from a fragment of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH 4-10) with an added Pro-Gly-Pro C-terminal tripeptide extension for enhanced stability. Developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics in Russia, Semax has been studied for its nootropic, neuroprotective, and neurorestorative properties. The peptide influences multiple neurochemical systems, modulating BDNF and NGF expression, serotonergic and dopaminergic neurotransmission, and inflammatory pathways in the central nervous system. Research has demonstrated effects on attention, memory formation, learning, and cognitive processing speed. Semax has also been investigated for neuroprotective applications in models of stroke, traumatic brain injury, and neurodegenerative conditions. Unlike full-length ACTH, Semax does not significantly affect adrenal steroidogenesis. Supplied as a lyophilized powder. For research use only.
